Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions I’m commonly asked:

  • Jolie provides counselling for individuals, couples, teens, and families. Areas of support include anxiety, stress, relationships, parenting, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and family dynamics.

  • Jolie offers counselling in North Vancouver, as well as virtual sessions for clients across British Columbia.

  • Yes. Virtual counselling sessions are available for individuals, couples, teens, and families throughout BC and across Canada.

  • That depends on the type of session you book. Some sessions are 50 minutes and others can be booked for 80 minutes. Consults are always 20 minutes long.

  • The first session is a chance to share what’s bringing you to counselling, ask questions, and begin identifying goals for the work together. There is no pressure to share everything immediately — the process moves at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

  • During the consultation, you can share a little about what’s bringing you in, learn more about my approach, and discuss what support might look like moving forward. There is no pressure or obligation to book ongoing sessions.

  • In British Columbia, there are several types of professionals who provide counselling and mental health support.

A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a counselling professional trained to support individuals, couples, teens, and families through talk therapy and emotional support. Many people seek counselling from an RCC for concerns such as anxiety, relationships, stress, parenting, and life transitions.

Psychologists typically have doctoral-level training and may provide formal psychological assessments and diagnoses in addition to therapy.

Registered social workers can also provide counselling and mental health support, often with additional training or experience in community systems, advocacy, and family support services.

  • That’s what we can decide together in the 20-minute consult. But, it’s likely, if you’re on my page, that you are here because you intuitively know you are in a place where extra support is needed.

  • I am not currently a direct provider through Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), but many clients are able to use their extended health benefits for reimbursement through their insurance provider.

If you are unsure about your coverage, I recommend checking with your provider to confirm whether sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) are included in your plan.

  • Yes. I work with teens experiencing anxiety, stress, emotional challenges, family conflict, school pressures, and life transitions.

  • Yes. I’m a graduate of the Couples Institute and provide extensive marriage and relationship counselling. Couples counselling can help improve communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and strengthen the connection within the relationship.

  • You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people seek support because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply want a healthier way forward.

  • Yes. Counselling sessions are confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions related to safety and protection that will be explained at the beginning of the counselling process.

  • I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and many extended health benefit plans cover my services.

Coverage varies depending on your provider and plan, so it’s best to check directly with your insurance company regarding eligibility and reimbursement.

After each session, you will receive a receipt that can be submitted for reimbursement if your plan includes coverage for counselling services.

  • It’s very common for teens to feel unsure about counselling at first. Many worry about being judged, pressured to talk, or speaking with someone they don’t know. The goal is not to force conversations, but to create a safe and respectful space where teens can feel comfortable at their own pace.

Parents are encouraged to approach counselling as support rather than punishment — emphasizing that counselling is a place for teens to be heard, understood, and helped through challenges they may be facing.

  • My rates are consistent with those recommended by the BCACC and are listed on my fees and insurance page.

  • I require 48 48-ho’ notice; otherwise, a full charge will be issued. This is to protect my schedule.

  • Yes! As a member of the adoptive community myself, I love working with families who are working through the unique discoveries that come with adoption.
